WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CHECKING GAS METERS
In accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On Metrology and Metrological Activities”, all measuring equipment, in particular, and household gas meters, are subject to periodic verification after a certain period of time – inter-calibration interval.
How often should domestic gas meters be checked?
The calibration interval of household gas meters is 5 or 8 years depending on the type of meter and the manufacturer.
Who has to pay for disassembly, transportation and installation of metering devices?
In accordance with the Rules for the provision of gas services to the public, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Decree No. 2246 of December 09, 1999, periodic verification of gas meters, their maintenance and related repair (including dismantling, transportation and installation), for individuals, carried out at the expense of the gas distribution company.
What tariffs will be charged for gas consumption when the meter is removed
For the period of removal of the gas meter to conduct periodic / extraordinary verification and repair associated with such verification, or to carry out repairs at the request of the consumer, the gas distribution company installs gas meters from the exchange fund. If it is not possible to install another meter instead of a temporarily removed meter, payments to the consumer shall be made depending on the average monthly volume of natural gas consumption for the same period of the previous year or the actual period of consumption, if it is less than six months of the given consumer.
If the gas meter is not timely verified, are its readings valid? What is the responsibility of the legislation for late calibration of gas meters?
If the calibration period is over and the gas meter is not verified due to the consumer's fault ( such as refusing a consumer access to their premises where gas meters are located for disassembly or installation) meter showings are considered invalid.According to the Law of Ukraine “On metrology and metrological activity”, persons guilty of violation of the legislation on metrology and metrological activity are subject to disciplinary, civil, administrative or criminal liability.
